Community and Schools Natural Resource Management Hygiene, water and sanitation project.
The First one year phase of the AusAID funded project was implemented from April 2009 to April 2010 in 13 community groups and 13 schools in 4 provinces in Kenya.
The project involved building the capacity of schools teachers, pupils and community members in natural resource management, hygiene, water and sanitation with the aim of improving the water and sanitation conditions, natural resource management and access to safe drinking water in the schools and community, on farm establishment of tree nurseries and tree planting in schools and community, water harvesting by construction and supply of water tanks, spring protection, digging of earth pans, construction of VIP latrines in schools and community, demonstration in solid and liquid waste management, installation of hand washing points in schools, construction of dish racks and cloth lines in community.
The Current Phase of the project is being implemented from April 2011 to March 2012. The Project is aimed at building the capacity of 11 schools and 14 Community groups in the areas of Hygiene, improved access to safe drinking water, sanitation and natural resource management conditions. The project involves onfarm establishment of tree nurseries and planting them in schools, community group members farms and public open land. it also involves supply and construction of water harvesting facilities, construction of VIP latrines for improved sanitation, solid and liquid waste management, installation of hand washing points, dish racks and organising exchange learning forums among schools and community groups among other activities.
