RODI Kenya Marks Another Milestone in Prison Rehabilitation and Skills Empowerment

RODI Kenya continues to strengthen its commitment to restorative justice by equipping incarcerated individuals with practical skills that promote self-reliance and successful reintegration into society.

This month, 32 female inmates and one prison officer at Lang’ata Women’s Prison, 38 male inmates at Nairobi West Prison, and 23 male inmates at Jamhuri Prison successfully completed a certification programme in value addition, hygiene product manufacturing, and entrepreneurship.

The training provided participants with practical skills in:

  • Yoghurt making
  • Half-cake baking
  • Crisps production
  • Fruit jam and tomato sauce processing
  • Manufacture of liquid soap, bleach, handwash, toilet cleaner, hair conditioner, and antiseptics
  • Hygiene and sanitation
  • Packaging and branding
  • Entrepreneurship and business management

The programme is designed to empower participants with marketable, income-generating skills that enhance their opportunities for economic independence upon release. By combining technical training with entrepreneurship, the initiative supports rehabilitation through practical pathways to sustainable livelihoods.

The inclusion of prison officers in the training also strengthens institutional capacity, ensuring continued support for rehabilitation programmes within correctional facilities.

This achievement reflects the growing impact of RODI Kenya's restorative justice initiatives, which seek to restore dignity, build confidence, and create opportunities for lasting transformation. We congratulate all the graduates on this important milestone and remain committed to empowering individuals through skills development and economic inclusion.
