FOOD SECURITY AND AGROECOLOGY .
In this thematic area we aim to encourage production and consumption of healthy and toxin free food and enable people gain access to food.
This thematic area has the following projects:
1. Project for enhancing Livelihood in Coffee Growing Areas( PELCA)
Implemented since 2021 with support from Tudor Trust through a consortium of 4 organisations implementing agro-ecology with small holder farmers in Kiambu and Muranga Counties. The project aims at contributing to Improved livelihood among smallholder farmers and youth in coffee-producing areas through food security, value addition, cottage industries and marketing


2. Project for Mass tree production
Implemented since 2021 with support from ECOSIA, a search engine that plants trees through GLS Foundation for Future Development
The initiative aims at contributing to global reforestation efforts, restoring lost forests, repairing damaged ecosystems mitigating and adapting to climate change among communities. The project is being implemented in 5 counties: Kiambu, Nyandarua, Machakos, Nyeri and Laikipia in Kenya.


Implemented since 2024 with support from BMZ though GLS Foundation for Future Development. The Project objective is to improve food and income security of coffee farmers in Nyeri County through crop diversification, improved water access and management, introducing agro-ecological farming practices, improved coffee management and marketing. In addition, job creation by supporting youth with start up capital for business creation and training them in entrepreneurship. The project is being implemented in Nyeri County in collaboration with the County Government of Nyeri, Coffee Research Institute and Other key stakeholders in the agro-ecology sector.

4.Integrated Water shed Management and diversification of Farm enterprises (IWAMA DIFE)
Implemented since 2014 with support from PELUM Kenya in Nyeri County .The project aims at enhancing joint action and community participation in policy processes and dialogues with KFS, NEMA, County Government of Nyeri and Ministries of Environment and Natural Resources, of Water, and of Agriculture for improved and inclusive water, environment and climate change policies and public program.

5. Community Livelihood Support
Implemented with support from Tudor Trust UK, GLS foundation for Future development and Bread for the World. The project objective is to support community livelihood improvement through access to food and income security. The project targets youth and community members for empowerment, linkages and collaborative support with the county government line Ministries. The project is being implemented in 24 community groups in 8 counties in Kenya, including Kakuma Refugee Camp and Host community.

6. Project for Improving safety and livelihood of workers hired by small holders in Kenya Implemented in 2019 to 2021 with support from Ethical Tea Partnership, IDH and the KTDA foundation. The projects objective is to enhance the social economic opportunities of 1200 workers of tea small holders farms in three catchment areas, Imenti (Meru County), Kapkoros (Bomet County) and Makomboki (Muranga County) as well as to improve safety in the communities and improve opportunities.
