Strengthening Agroecology in West Pokot Through Farmer Training

Strengthening Agroecology in West Pokot Through Farmer Training

West Pokot, Kenya | 22–23 October 2026

Twenty farmers from West Pokot participated in a Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) workshop held on 22nd and 23rd October 2026 at Manor House Agricultural Centre. The training aimed to strengthen their understanding of agroecology principles and equip them with practical skills to promote sustainable farming practices within their communities.

The two-day workshop combined theoretical learning with hands-on demonstrations, enabling participants to explore practical approaches to improving soil health, enhancing crop productivity and supporting environmentally friendly food production systems.

A key component of the training was the practical preparation of Bokashi, Ash Brew and Supermagro  agroecological inputs that farmers can learn to prepare and use to support soil fertility and plant health. Through these demonstrations, participants gained practical knowledge of locally accessible approaches that can reduce reliance on costly external agricultural inputs.

The Trainers of Trainers approach is intended to help participants share the knowledge and skills acquired with other farmers in their communities, encouraging wider adoption of agroecological practices and strengthening local capacity for sustainable agriculture.

By combining practical skills development with knowledge sharing, the workshop contributed to ongoing efforts to build resilient farming systems, improve agricultural sustainability and support communities in adopting practices that work in harmony with nature.
